Our Story
Maria Callisto was not born in a traditional luxury fashion house; it was born from raw necessity, a single sewing machine, and an unwavering determination to create beauty in the quietest, hardest spaces.
Founded by Maria Igwebuike, a self-taught designer with a refugee background, the brand began as both a personal refuge and a creative survival tool, a way to carve out space in a world that rarely offered it. Every stitch in our collection carries the living story of this journey: a delicate balance of resilience, deep-rooted artistry, and the soft rebellion of women who love deeply, live freely, and reject uninspiring clichés.
We don’t design for flawless, rigid perfection. Maria Callisto celebrates the real, chaotic, and sacred rituals surrounding love. The late-night sleepovers with your closest girls, the quiet early-morning prep, the blurred laughter, the tears that soften your makeup, and the unscripted magic before and long after the vows.
From Maria’s hands to yours, our story is stitched to become part of yours.
THE HERITAGE & THE CRAFT
At the heart of Maria Callisto lies a rich cultural dialogue- a seamless bridge connecting West African warmth with British heritage and refinement.
We believe intimacy is an heirloom. Unlike mass-market bridalwear, our pieces are designed as sensory keepsakes made to be worn against the skin, treasured through life’s milestones, and passed down. Each piece is rare and incredible, created with the intention of being a keepsake treasure that becomes future generations' vintage. Whether it’s sustainable silk sleepwear, fine lace lingerie, or bespoke bridal nightwear, every piece honours slow creation, intentional beauty, and human-touched craftsmanship.
Conscious Fashion
Fast fashion has no place in intimate rituals. As a conscious fashion label, we stand strong by the planet and choose to produce in small quantities to stop any waste caused by overconsumption
Upcycled Couture Partnerships: To further our zero-waste philosophy, we proudly partner with premier London-based wedding designers to salvage and upcycle remnant bridal fabrics, breathing new life into exquisite offcuts that would otherwise be forgotten
Thoughtful Pre-Orders: All items showing as Pre-order will be shipped within an average of 2 to 3 weeks after ordering. Pre-order means your chosen piece is currently sold out and awaiting more fabric/materials to arrive, but you will receive priority shipment as soon as your hand-stitched pieces are complete.
If you have any further questions please email hello@mariacallisto.co.uk. If your order is needed for specific date, please also do let us know in advance, so we can put a note with your order.
Our Commitment
We create for the moments in between: the quiet morning after, the shared glass of wine on a sunlit bed, and the beautiful chaos of living authentically. When you wear Maria Callisto, you are stepping into garments that carry soul, narrative, and quiet luxury, crafted to live far beyond a single day or season.
Thank you for being a part of our story and trusting us with your most intimate moments.
With love,
Maria Igwebuike & The Maria Callisto Atelier
